BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method) is a method for assessing, rating and certifying the sustainability of buildings. It looks at various categories. The health & wellbeing category encompasses aspects that can provide a safe and healthy lifestyle, such as inclusive design, acoustics and day lighting.
BREEAM is an international scheme, originating in the UK, and currently in use in more than 50 countries.
The acoustic issues that are treated are reverberation, insulation and indoor ambient levels. Recently, DELHOM ACOUSTIQUE has had the opportunity to work with LCR Architecte and PITCH Promotion on a BREEAM oriented project for ENEDIS’s offices, workshops and garages in Toulouse, France. Covering an area of 16,000 square metres, it fulfilled all necessary criteria to be awarded a BREEAM certification. Acoustics plays a big role in the success of a BREEAM certified building as it helps end-users who work in a certified building to be healthier and happier than employees who do not.
We have had the chance to work for various industries looking to achieve a BREEAM standard. These include airports, universities, and medical centres in different countries worldwide, and are glad to know that more and more buildings are becoming sustainable.
